Pinarello’s Dogma F10
Since it's release in 2015 The Pinarello Dogma F8 has become a universal identification code for high performance cycling, and in December 2016 was voted bike of the year in Cycling news reader poll securing 28% of the 17000 votes.
The Pinarello F8 beat the Specialized tarmac used by Etixx-Quickstep, Astana and Tinkoff in 2016 which was second with 18% of votes. The Trek Madone used by the Trek-Segafredo team gained 12% with the Canyon Aero taking 11% and the Cervelo S5 taking 10%.
The Pinarello F8 was used by Team Sky and Chris Froome to win the Tour de France and combines an aerodynamic design with high performance. Team Sky confirmed a further four year partnership with Pinarello this year. Already the most successful Tour de France bikes in history, the seven year partnership with the Italian frame builders has so far seen 232 wins, two world championships, 656 podiums and 26 Grand Tour stage wins.
Now the name Pinarello Dogma F10 unleashes a new technical and aesthetic evolution that sparks the adrenaline of all that inhibit that world, Dogma is again the new absolute benchmark of road bikes. Pinarello looked to enhance four main properties of the Dogma instead of giving it a complete overhaul. Maintain same handling, increase stiffness, reduce air drag and most importantly reduce weight.
The Dogma F10 has also inherited much from her sister bike the Pinarello Bolide, currently the fastest bike in the world, the current record holder with Sir Bradley Wiggins, time trial World Champion with Kiryenka and winner of Tour de france 2016 with Chris Froome. It retains the super-efficient Flatback profiles from the Dogma F8, but inherits a new design of the down tube from the Bolide TT which shields the water bottles from the airflow, while further increasing the lateral stiffness and gaining 12.6% aerodynamic performance in the area between the down tube and water bottles. The down tube generates more than 15% of the overall drag and directly effects how the air reacts around the bottles and seat tube. Pinarello claims to have not only reduced drag from the reworked down tube but also around the bottle cages too, working a local drag reduction of around 12%. The Shimano junction box also sits here too helping aerodynamics by cleaning up the frontal area around the handlebar and stem. Cables have also been routed internally.
The F10 still uses Pinarello’s asymmetry concept, which has been in development since 2009. This basically means Pinarello increases the size of the bottom bracket on the right hand side and reduces it on the left hand side which helps increase stiffness and balance. Pinarello was one of the first to develop a road bike with all round capabilities that Team Sky, who helped to develop the Dogma use for most races throughout the year. The great blend of aerodynamics, light weight with good handling and racing characteristics has helped Chris Froome to three Tour de France titles. In the time with Team Sky, Pinarello has developed eight road bikes and three time trial bikes with more planned up until the end of the sponsorship period in 2020.
